My Future Career

The profession I see myself performing everyday for the rest of my life is cardiac surgeon. This is a job where everyday you bring meaningful changes to people’s lives and you help them in tremendous ways. Having a profession where I didn’t feel like I was making a change in this world or helping people doesn’t really fit with who I am, so, that’s why I was actively looking for a career that involves these points.

Being a cardiac surgeon involves surgery, obviously, and that’s a part of this wonderful career that really resonates with me. I like that the job is very hands-on and your work days go by really fast. I like theory, which I’m going to be learning a lot of, but I always prefer practical work where I can apply my theory and that is why surgery seems fun to me. Being a doctor opens up so many possibilities and I find that really inspiring. I’ve always wanted to work in the emergency room but I would love to make a change in the world and go help countries where they don’t have the resources for healthcare, which is why I would like to be a part of Doctors Without Borders to be able to help thousands, and make meaningful changes in the world around me.

I’ve wanted to go into cardiology for a long time but I recently figured out why. When I was 11 years old, my grandmother was staying with me at home and me and my 14-year-old brother were alone with her. She had a cardiac episode, a heart attack, and I had to call 911. I didn’t know what to do and I think that the trauma from that day made me want to be able to fix hearts and not let that episode affect people. Luckily, the surgery my grandmother had went great and I want to be able to save people and bring relief to families just like that cardiac surgeon did with me.

  1. I am so sorry about your grandmother and i hope she recovered well. Even if the experience was very traumatic, it made you grow as a person!

  2. What a moving blog post, William! I enjoyed getting to know you a bit more and I wanted to read on to know if your grandmother had recovered.

You seem fit for the job, and I definitely see you in that field of study!

Here are a few elements to review:
    - Break your text into paragraphs
    - Review the use of commas

    Keep it up! :)
